Being washed
Husbands love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word […] Ephesians 5:25-26
Praise the Lord for his word!
We know that words can destroy us or they can build us,
They can make us angry or make us smile,
They can make us sad or make us joyful,
They can mess us up but they can also clean us.
This what the word of our Heavenly Father does to our souls. It cleans us.
We all came to this world with a sinful nature inside of us. (Ephesians 2:3)
This is our spirit or the inner man.
When we came to the Lord, our sinful nature was replaced by a new nature (2 Corinthians 5:17) however our minds, which is part of our soul, has not been renewed.
This is why the apostle Paul talks about the necessity of renewing our minds. (Romans 12:1).
Renewing our minds
It’s important as children of God that we spend time in the Word of God, led by the Spirit, so we can wash or renew our minds with the water of the Word of God.
What do we do when our clothes are dirty ? We simply wash them.
Would we put dirty clothes on us after having a shower ? This does not sound right.
But sometimes even though we are born again, we do not take the time to wash our minds with the water of the Word of God.
So we keep our old ways of thinking, our old habits, our old patterns because we do not want to wash our minds by the water of the Word of God.
When was the last time you spent some time reading the word ?
Faith without deeds in dead
Once we received some input from the Lord through his Word, we should wait on the Lord so he can show us an opportunity to practice what was unveiled to us through the Word.
This is what we call faith in action. Faith without action is dead. (James 2:26)
This is one thing to get into the shower and to turn the water on (reading the Word) but we need also to wash ourselves (apply the Word) while the water in running on us.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
James 1:22
When was the last time you acted upon the Word by faith?
Let’s be encouraged with the fact the One who started this great work in us will finish it but he will do it in partnership with us. Not against our will.
The Lord did not force to receive his grace and he will not force us to wash our minds with the water of the word either.
But what a privilege and a freedom it is to be transformed,
to walk in the power of the Spirit,
to speak the word with boldness,
to see the fruit of the spirit growing in us,
to see ourselves looking more like Jesus day by day,
Praise the Lord and take care today my friend!
