We are fully forgiven! This is the truth that is revealed to us in the word of God.
The Holy Spirit said: “..that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s trespasses against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19
Therefore we are all forgiven, regardless ANYTHING bad we did or are still doing.
This might sound shocking for many but this is the truth from the word of God.
“..for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,” Romans 3:23
We all have missed the mark and we keep doing so when we live according to the flesh.
As righteous and holy as someone can look like in their behaviour, this does not change the truth that we have ALL sinned.
Now the same scripture says that we are justified by his grace. We are not justified or forgiven from sin because of our behaviour because of Jesus’ work of faith that he finished at the cross.
Now, this has been said, I can already hear someone saying: “Does it mean that I can continue to miss the mark?”
Miss the mark means to sin against God.
As we have been forgiven, can we do whatever we want and therefore keep missing the mark?
How would this benefit you? Jesus set us free so we can live a much higher standard of life than we are living now.
We should be able to live like Jesus lived and do what he did. He raised people from the dead, healed the sick, cast out demons, spoke words of wisdom and words of knowledge, he performed miracles in the eyes of all.
This is what we should be doing instead of enjoying the pleasure of the flesh by missing the mark. There is a higher calling for all of us.
Now someone might genuinely be trying to live like Jesus but constantly sins against God. Welcome to the club! I must admit that there is stuff that I was involved in before my conversion that I’ve not been able to get rid of completely. Yes, I know that I’m missing the mark but I’m also focusing on my position in Christ and I know as I continue to do so, the one I am (the spiritual one) will manifest on this earth and I’ll miss the mark less and less.
What’s your attitude when you miss the mark?
Do you say I’m forgiven anyway so I can keep doing it or do you say Lord help me to reflect who you are?
I think it’s our attitude that will define the outcome of our actions. The attitude of our hearts.
Do you know we can overcome sin by the power of the Holy Spirit? We can walk in righteousness as Jesus did and set the captives free.
Our identity is not in the world or sin but in Jesus. We can keep renewing our minds and allow the fruit of the spirit to come out of us.
We should accept to feel uncomfortable when constantly missing the mark but we need to acknowledge that we are much stronger than we think we are in our natural minds.
Let us focus on his righteousness and we will less and less miss the mark. As we keep our eyes on Jesus’ standards of living, our minds will be renewed and the natural standards we currently have will be replaced by holy ones.
That’s my prayer for you and I today.
Blessings
