Under subjection

We are spiritual beings but have physical bodies. Our bodies made of flesh help us to communicate with the physical but as spirits, our source and identity are found in our Heavenly Father who is also spirit.

“God is spirit”, Jesus said in John 4:24.

And because we have been created as his image it’s a no-brainer to understand that we are spirit too!

This said, how do we interact with our earthly bodies of flesh? And the answer is where this title starts to make sense. We need to keep our bodies under the subjection of the spirit.

The spirit is who we are truly. The body is a tool that we use to interact with earthly things. That must be a revolution for you to read this but this knowledge has the power to change your life.

We live in a world where emotions are leading us to the detriment of our spirit. Instead of being in charge, our spirit is left behind. No wonder why the world is in such darkness. Our spirit is supposed to be the light of the world but we do not allow our spirit to take the lead.

We need to bring our bodies under subjection. But how?

Fasting is a very good place to start.

Why do you think Jesus fasted for 40 days before starting his ministry?

Because he needed to bring his body under complete subjection. If we allow our bodies to be in charge, we won’t do the will of God but the will of the prince of the air.

This is what God says in Romans 8:6-7:

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.

Who is leading your life? Flesh or spirit?

Many people don’t know or don’t believe that they are spirit. They are therefore led by their flesh.

When I fasted for 40 days in 2015, I understood the power that the spirit had over the flesh. I realised that my body could be weak but my strength was coming from my spirit and not from my flesh.

Your real strength is in your spirit, my friend.

As I was fasting after 24 days without I had much more energy than my wife and kids who were eating every day.

Matter of fact is that I was the one cooking for them, washing the dishes, hoovering and even lawn mowing.

The Lord was showing me that my strength was decupled when I was keeping my body under subjection.

This strength like Samson had, had always been available but I was not tapping into it because my flesh was in the way.

Get your flesh out of the way! Bring your body under subjection so you can start experiencing real life.

This is what the spirit of God tells us through Paul the apostle in 1 Corinthians 9:26-27:

Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

Jesus did it and we saw how wise and powerful Jesus was. Paul continued in Jesus’ footsteps. Do you really think you can walk with the power of heaven without bringing your body under subjection?

Think about it today!
