Self-control

Self-control is a fruit of the spirit and its seeds dwell in you. The spirit of God will produce self-control in you if you tune in the mind of the Lord. Your body might be shouting and crawling under emotions but you are the decision-maker.

You might feel you have to obey what you feel but the truth is you can harness your emotions.

How do I do that?

I noticed that when I’m about to do something that I know won’t be good for me, a battle takes place in my mind.

I usually end up doing whatever became prominent in mind. It’s very quick and subtle but before you do anything, you have to first agree with it in your mind.

This is what I discovered.

Instead of using my willpower to not do something or to do something, I simply call up the Lord. I say: “Lord help me to do that or help me not doing this.”

Usually, when I do this, my focus changes and positions itself on something greater than me. The Lord.

I realised that I don’t have to fight a lot, I just need to take a breath and ask for help.

It looks simple because it is simple. Each time I am challenged in my mind, if I remember to turn to the Lord, I usually have the victory.

The challenge is to get into the habit of calling upon Him. It’s not something we naturally do for the day-to-day tasks as we like to be in control of our lives.

Self-control is handing control over someone greater than us. Our true Source and Creator.

Be encouraged today.
